CYG SUNRI & CYG Qicheng Complete Largest Wind Power Substation Automation Retrofit in Liaoning in Just 10 Days
Recently, the "220kV Longkang Substation Integrated Automation Retrofit Project" in Liaoning, jointly undertaken by CYG SUNRI Co., Ltd. and Chengdu Qicheng Electric Power Co., Ltd.—both subsidiaries of Changyuan Technology Group Ltd.(CYG)—was successfully completed and delivered. This project marks another milestone in CYG’s substation retrofit business, setting a new industry benchmark for automation upgrades in substations of similar scale across China.
The Longkang Substation, a 220kV wind power collection hub operated by Longyuan Power in Liaoning, connects to seven 66kV wind farm step-up substations and has a total grid-connected capacity of 600MW. Following the upgrade, the station’s transmission capability has been expanded from 220kV to 500kV, and its automation level has been significantly enhanced—providing a robust “energy defense line” for peak summer electricity demand.
The scope of this retrofit covered the entire station’s secondary systems, including integrated protection and automation systems, backup power, communication systems, terminal boxes, and more. The project involved in-situ upgrades to over 40 panels and more than 150 sets of devices.
The project faced three major challenges:
1) A tight 10-day power outage window
2) A commissioning deadline that overlapped with a national holiday
3) The risk of multimillion-level economic losses if delayed
To tackle these constraints, CYG SUNRI promptly established a dedicated project team at the company level. Over 80 technical experts were dispatched to the site for round-the-clock execution. Working in close collaboration with the grid operator, the team jointly optimized the grid-connection plan and pioneered a “pre-simulation retrofit model.” This included in-factory mock wiring, component sorting, and pre-commissioning—dramatically reducing on-site workload and minimizing risks.
From the outset, CYG SUNRI and CYG Qicheng demonstrated excellence in planning, risk control, and resource coordination. Several critical tasks were completed ahead of schedule, allowing for an early and successful energization. The project not only averted significant economic loss but also safeguarded grid stability and earned high praise from the client.
In the context of accelerating power system digitalization, CYG continues to build on its strong foundation in protection and automation technologies, offering a full-process, one-stop secondary system retrofit solution. By introducing advanced models such as “pre-simulation retrofitting” and “live-line upgrades,” CYG empowers users to achieve safer, faster, and more intelligent substation transformations.
Looking ahead, CYG remains committed to its mission of “For a safer and easier use of energy.” CYG will continue to iterate on core technologies, enhance service delivery, and provide highly reliable, intelligent solutions—injecting sustained momentum into the stable operation of modern power systems and advancing the industry toward an intelligent energy future.
